Wild Geraniums “Fling” Their Seeds
As I surveyed my front yard with some mild despair about the projects that I haven’t even started and the overgrowth of weeds, I noticed interesting anatomy where the blooms on my wild geraniums were before they “went to seed.” I ran inside and did some quick searches to learn about wild geranium seeds; I wanted to know parts contained the seeds, and when they needed to be harvested. As it turns out, many current cultivars of wild geraniums are sterile and don’t produce seeds. I also learned that collecting the seeds can be difficult because the plant has a built in mechanism that “flings” the seeds when they are ripe.
